Prejudices about Dutch tomatoes in Germany refuted

Written by  Miranda van den Ende

In a broadcast of "Vorkoster" on the WDR presenter and starchef Björn Freitag researched the health effects of tomatoes and tomato products. A woman at one week dishes with tomatoes or tomato products. At the end of this week, the lycopene levels in her blood clearly reproduced. A higher value means that the lycopene better addresses free radicals what gives a positive effect on health. In the broadcast also field tests were done on the taste of the Dutch tomatoes. Unfortunately, many Germans still believe the myth that the Dutch tomatoes would be tasteless. The best tasting tomatoes in the blind test were labeled as German tomatoes. They were very surprised when it appeared that the best tasting tomatoes were of Dutch origin. The presenter was very surprised, when he visited two tomato greenhouses (an organic and a conventional grower) that no chemicals be used and the tomatoes could be eaten directly from the plant. It is hoped that many German consumers have followed the show and will gain confidence in Dutch tomatoes.
